MARKETING & DESIGN

Social media manager resume guide

Describe channel strategy, content responsibilities, and community work. Separate organic from paid results, and define the time window and audience behind growth or engagement metrics.

By RewriteMe · Illustrative examples, not customer results

A clearer bullet. The same facts.

A rewrite should make your contribution easier to understand. Here is a fictional example that changes the expression without adding a new employer, qualification, or result.

Original wording

Planned Instagram posts and responded to comments for a local retailer.

Rewritten wording

Planned Instagram content and managed comment responses for a local retailer.

The revision gives the action a direct verb and keeps the scope from the original. It does not add a percentage or promotion. If you have a verified result, include it with enough context to explain how it was measured.

Gather the details that make this yours

Channels, content formats, publishing cadence, paid versus organic scope, and verified results.

Look at your own project notes, job history, and performance records. For each recent role, write down what you did, how you did it, and what happened. If a number is uncertain, leave it out or clearly describe its basis rather than guessing.

Use job keywords with evidence

These terms may be relevant to social media manager roles. Compare them with the actual job posting, then use only the terms that describe your experience.

  • social content
  • community management
  • content calendars
  • channel reporting

A required skill in a job advertisement is not proof that you have that skill. Put tools in the context of work you performed and explain transferable experience when you are changing roles.

Check the final document

  1. Confirm your name, contact information, employers, dates, and credentials against the original.
  2. Use clear section headings and a simple reading order. Follow the employer's requested file type.
  3. Copy text from the exported PDF into a plain text editor to check that it is readable and in order.
  4. Read every bullet aloud. Keep language you would comfortably explain in an interview.

Our ATS formatting guide covers these checks in more detail. You can also compare your original and rewritten text with the free resume fact check.
