Customer service representative resume guide
Describe the issues you handled, channels you used, and how you resolved or escalated requests. If you include satisfaction or resolution metrics, name the period and use your own records.

Show what happened between the question and the answer
A customer service resume becomes more useful when a reader can see the channel, the type of request, and your responsibility. “Excellent communicator” leaves all three unanswered. Explain whether you answered calls, handled store returns, replied to support tickets, or escalated account problems. Those activities can require different experience.
Start with the work you can describe confidently in an interview. If you know the typical number of requests you handled, explain the time period and keep approximations explicit. If you do not know, the channels and issues still provide useful context. You do not need to invent a satisfaction score or a resolution rate to write a complete bullet.
For a move from retail into remote support, identify the overlap without claiming software experience you do not have. Documenting an order issue and passing it to a supervisor can demonstrate relevant work. It does not establish that you used Zendesk or owned a formal escalation program.
Source facts
Fictional notes: answered phone and store questions, about 25 each shift; returns followed the store policy.
A complete bullet
Handled approximately 25 customer inquiries per shift by phone and in-store; processed returns under store policy.
The channel, approximate volume, and return responsibility are all supplied. The bullet does not claim that every issue was resolved or that satisfaction improved.
Source facts
Fictional notes: recorded damaged-order details and sent cases requiring refunds to the supervisor.
A complete bullet
Documented damaged-order details and referred refund requests to the supervisor.
This preserves the boundary between supporting a refund request and having authority to approve one.
A checklist for this role
- Name only support tools you actually used.
- Distinguish requests handled from cases resolved.
- Keep customer names, account numbers, and confidential ticket content out of your resume.
- Check whether the posting asks for phone, email, chat, or in-person experience; emphasize the channels you can support with facts.
A clearer bullet. The same facts.
A rewrite should make your contribution easier to understand. Here is a fictional example that changes the expression without adding a new employer, qualification, or result.
Original wording
Answered customer questions about orders by phone and email.
Rewritten wording
Resolved order questions from customers by phone and email.
The revision gives the action a direct verb and keeps the scope from the original. It does not add a percentage or promotion. If you have a verified result, include it with enough context to explain how it was measured.
Gather the details that make this yours
Request types, support tools, escalation responsibilities, and documented service measures.
Look at your own project notes, job history, and performance records. For each recent role, write down what you did, how you did it, and what happened. If a number is uncertain, leave it out or clearly describe its basis rather than guessing.
Use job keywords with evidence
These terms may be relevant to customer service representative roles. Compare them with the actual job posting, then use only the terms that describe your experience.
- customer support
- order inquiries
- issue resolution
- ticketing
A required skill in a job advertisement is not proof that you have that skill. Put tools in the context of work you performed and explain transferable experience when you are changing roles.
Check the final document
- Confirm your name, contact information, employers, dates, and credentials against the original.
- Use clear section headings and a simple reading order. Follow the employer's requested file type.
- Copy text from the exported PDF into a plain text editor to check that it is readable and in order.
- Read every bullet aloud. Keep language you would comfortably explain in an interview.
